Job TitleFundraising Development Manager STB and CTH

Responsible to Head of Fundraising

Principal contacts

Internal: Fundraising and marketing staff, retail, care teams at both hospices and all other staff and volunteers including CEO, SMT and trustees.

External: Trusts and foundations, donors, solicitors and legacy pledgers.

Location

The post is based at St Barnabas House with regular visits to Chestnut Tree House.

Job purpose

To maximise income from trusts, foundations and other grant-makers for both hospices.

Principal duties and responsibilities

To oversee and think strategically about legacy fundraising and marketing for both hospices.

To think strategically about, oversee and develop in memory giving across both hospices.

Lead, manage and supervise the Development Fundraiser and Fundraising Development Administrator who work on in memory and legacy giving.

Develop and submit high quality trust and foundation funding applications, working with colleagues across the organisation to identify fundraising opportunities, share plans and add value.

Initiate and lead on the development of complex bids and cases for support.

Meet monitoring requirements set by grant funders using appropriate outcomes and impact approaches.

Establish and manage effective relationships with trusts and foundations.

Work with the Development Fundraiser to develop the legacy marketing strategy and ongoing activities across both hospices: including implementing campaigns to recruit and retain legacy supporters, organising stewardship events for legacy pledgers, researching and reporting on legacy fundraising across both hospices and the annual will writing campaign month.

Alongside the Development Fundraiser, continue the development of an In Memory Giving strategy, to maximise retention of donors and increase their giving, and supporting the team to meet agreed KPIs.

Responsible for setting and achieving all targets relating to fundraising from Trusts and Foundations and in memory giving.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or experience

Good standard of general education preferably to degree level

Three years experience of working in fundraising, particularly in trusts, with experience of securing five and six-figure sums from trusts and foundations

Experience of relationship building at a high level

Desirable

Certificate or Diploma in Fundraising Management (Institute of Fundraising or equivalent)

Experience of working with volunteers

Experience of managing a team

Experience of project planning

Skills

Able to think laterally and with creativity about developing relationships which will maximise long-term funding for the hospices

Excellent research skills

Excellent written and presentational skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Strong organisational and administrative skills

Able to assimilate and accurately use and present a lot of information

Able to create and communicate a compelling fundraising case for support

Able to interpret and explain financial information accurately

Able to plan and manage own time to meet goals and deadlines

Target and results orientated

To be professional and credible when representing the hospices

IT proficiency with presentation software, word processing, spreadsheets and database knowledge

Personal grief resolved sufficiently to perform and cope in palliative care setting

Own transport required

Knowledge

Knowledge of the Trust / Foundation grant making sector and charitable giving generally Understanding of donor motivations

Other Duties

To undertake any other duty within your ability and within reason, as may be required from time to time, at the direction of your line manager.

Assistance

The Hospice has the advantage of being supported by a number of volunteers. If a volunteer is assigned to assist you at any time, you will still retain responsibility for the requirements of this job in terms of accuracy, efficiency and standards of completion. You will also ensure good communication and be mindful of your responsibility towards that volunteer in terms of Health and Safety.

You should be aware of the confidential nature of the Hospice environment and/or your role. Any matters of a confidential nature, relating to patients, carers, relatives, staff or volunteers must not be divulged to any unauthorised person.

Data Protection

You should make yourself aware of the requirements of the Data Protection Act and follow local codes of practice to ensure appropriate action is taken to safeguard confidential information.

Health & Safety

You are required to take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions and you should ensure that statutory regulations, policies, codes of practice and safety and good house-keeping rules are adhered to, attending safety and fire lectures as required.
