FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Laura Beck for EcoClean laurabeckcahoon@gmail.com 512-786-1098 EcoClean Selects Project Transitions for March PROPS Program Recipient Austin’s Eco-Friendly Garment Cleaner Focuses on Community With Green Cleaning And Local Non Profit Fundraising

Austin, TX, March 7, 2012 – EcoClean is proud to announce its seventh PROPS program non profit partner, Project Transitions. Starting today and every Wednesday in the month of March, 5% of all sales at EcoClean will go to Project Transitions, serving Central Texas since 1988 with hospice, housing and support for people with HIV and AIDS. EcoClean is an Austin-local brand committed to community involvement in a number of ways including this PROPS program which previously has given over $2,500 to local non profits including Theatre Action Project, Hill Country Conservancy, SafePlace, Austin Lyric Opera, Save Our Springs (SOS) Alliance and Keep Austin Beautiful (KAB).

EcoClean is an eco-friendly garment cleaner, and its professional wet cleaning is a green alternative to traditional dry cleaning, a chemical based process that has not evolved nor improved since its invention in the 1940’s. An independent Austin business since 1996, EcoClean is a member of the Austin EcoNetwork, offers customers a great –and green – experience with superior garment cleaning, and has free pick up and delivery at over 400 doors, and desks, and growing city-wide. PROPS, put into place September 2011, is community partner program designed to create positive change in the environment and social fabric of Austin. By partnering with local non-profit organizations each month, EcoClean gives its customers an easy way to make a difference, and helps spread awareness of the issues facing the Austin community and the powerful organizations working to solve them. Each month, EcoClean selects a non profit and donates 5% of all sales every Wednesday of that month to that non profit.

The March PROPS partner, Project Transitions, is dedicated to serving people with HIV and AIDS by providing hospice, housing, and support in a compassionate and caring environment. Project Transitions was established in 1988 from the good work Barbara Davis has done for people living with AIDS, establishing the first support groups, helping find residential hospice facilities, and generally getting compassionate care at such tough life moments. In mid 1989, Doug’s House was opened, a hospice named after one of the early organizers. Waiting lists and high occupancy rates, even now 20+ years later, prompted the addition of other housing options for individuals and families, including Roosevelt Gardens, which has now evolved into a transitional housing program offering a path to independent living. Highland Terrance offers affordable housing to people living with HIV and AIDS, and in 2002, the organization started a Community Housing program across Central Texas. Thrift store, Top Drawer, opened in 1993 and helps fund programs. All these resources and more are part of Project Transitions where no one is denied participation because of inability to pay, and so much is accomplished, in part because of the full support of the caring Central Texas community. “EcoClean is just the kind of business that makes Austin special, local, excellent at what it does, and caring about the community around it,” Fleetwood Jacobs, development coordinator, Project Transitions. “With all the deserving organizations and non profits in the Austin area, we are so honored EcoClean selected us for its March partner, and are really excited to have some fun with PROPS every Wednesday this month. Get those dirty clothes ready!”

Austinites are encouraged to bring your cleaning into EcoClean any Wednesday to ensure 5% of your bill will go to a deserving charity. In March, 5% of all Wednesday sales go to Project Transitions. Future month PROPS partners will be announced over time.

About PROPS:

PROPS is urban slang for PROPER RESPECT which was shortened to PROPERS in the 1960s. In the song Respect, Otis Redding’s original line “… give me my proper respect when you get home” was interpreted by Aretha Franklin as “..give me my propers, when you come home.” The further abbreviated version, PROPS, was popularized in the 1980’s by hip-hop artists and fans.
