Well, here we are, up to our eyes in holidays. Im a people person and enjoy get togethers, but when Im tired I sometimes dread standing around and making small talk. Heres a few ways you can make the evening interesting. Dont be afraid to ask daring questions. When in conversation, you can choose to continually circle around boring, ordinary items such as the weather, but Id rather really get to know somebody. Chances are, theyd love to have a REAL conversation, too. And you can be certain that yours is about to be the most interesting conversation theyve had in a while. How can you do this without: A) Offending them Or B) Making sure to talk about something in their field of interest?

Heres an example.My goodness, Im in still such a fog from work, Im sorry if I seem distracted.Most people would simply say, Oh no, youre fine, which cuts off any real conversation.But what if you then said, What happened at work?Youll be surprised how pleased people are to talk about whats really on their minds! And all youhave to do is seize on the most interesting part of whatever it is they have to tell you, andsuddenly youre having a truly fascinating conversation. If youre at a party, youll find other peoplebeginning to drift towards your conversation. Keep your body language open and your facerelaxed and happy if youd like to invite others in, and try including them in the conversation whenthey move closer-like this: Mary, Amys just telling me about her boss from hell.Be memorable. Most people dress much like one another. The men are all wearing sweaters andslacks; the women are wearing layers and jeans: whatever the uniform, if you go outside it, youllstand out. If you are friendly and approachable too, youll find yourself the focus of a lot ofattention, especially if you have GOOD POSTURE, which well discuss tomorrow.Try wearing unusual shoes, like pink sneakers, or perhaps a bowtie. Fashionable eyeglasses are agreat way to look sharp and stand out, and they make a great prop while youre talking, too. Youcan take them off and gesture with them, put one of the earpieces between your lips whenlistening, look over the tops while smiling the possibilities are endless, and a lot of fun.Other options: a bolo tie, an unusual pair of gloves or a belt, or a fabulous hat.Perhaps most importantly of all, Be Conf ident andApproachable. Stand up straight, and give a relaxed,happy-to-see you smile to everyone. Wink if its 2. happy-to-see you smile to everyone.
