AVEC

In an era defined by digital streams and indie-folk revival, AVEC emerged as a force that completely redefined singer-songwriter craft. Born Miriam Hufnagl in 1995 in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria, she grew up with violin strings and began writing songs at twelve, teaching herself guitar at fourteen and embracing a solitary path into the heart of melody. She studied history and English in Salzburg while nurturing a voice that would later cut across Europe.

Her early years bore the weight of personal and artistic conflict: dealing with her grandmother's Alzheimer's inspired the ballad "Granny" (2015) and exposed the tension between private grief and public expression. AVEC released her debut EP Heartbeats in 2015 and earned her first nominations at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards in 2016, signalling that her vulnerable minimalism resonated beyond the local scene. Her first full-length, What If We Never Forget (23 September 2016) charted in Austria and set a benchmark for deeply personal yet accessible songwriting.

However, the challenge was far from over. With her second album Heaven/Hell (14 September 2018) she expanded her palette, blending introspection with widescreen arrangements, while tours across Austria, Germany, Hungary and Switzerland sharpened her live craft. The third album Homesick (27 March 2020) grappled with loneliness and belonging, released at the cusp of global upheaval. In 2024 she founded her own imprint, Jim Bob Records, honouring a family legacy and seizing creative control. Her fourth album, AVEC (24 January 2025), marked a mature consolidation of voice and vision.

AVEC navigated complex creative economies, ethical imperatives and the shifting sands of the music industry with unwavering resilience and inventive independence. Through her journey she established a new artistic lineage in Austrian folk-pop and set fresh benchmarks for sincerity in songwriting. Decades later, AVEC's indelible impact endures - inspiring new generations across Austria and beyond, leaving us with the courage to turn private truth into public art.
