Carlos Velásquez

Born in the bustling streets of Cataño, Puerto Rico, Carlos Iván Velásquez transformed early hardship and fierce competition into stepping stones toward greatness. Growing up with his twin brother Juan, he turned childhood scarcity into fuel for focus, training from age 11 in the humid gyms of his hometown. Driven by this goal, he forged a reputation as a disciplined and lethal amateur fighter, eventually qualifying for the 2004 Olympics via the AIBA qualifying tournament.

Blazing through the amateur scene, he stunned skeptics by defeating Olympic gold medalist Yuriorkis Gamboa at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games and took gold. The result of that effort was national acclaim and belief in his professional potential. He turned pro in 2007 under promoters Luis de Cubas and Shelly Finkel and surged through his first dozen fights, stopping many of them.

Charging into higher stakes, his first title shot came in September 2015 against Javier Fortuna in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, he fell by tenth-round technical knockout in what became his final bout. He retired with a professional record of 19 wins and 2 defeats across 21 fights, with 12 wins by knockout.

Resolute after setbacks, he persisted through injuries and criticism, always backed by his twin brother-his corner voice, moral anchor, and fiercest critic. He relocated to Las Vegas and made boxing his identity, weathering doubts and institutional resistance along the way.
